01 · The class Forty-five minutes, every Thursday, a fall full of progress.

Sometimes one skill. Sometimes the whole instrument. Always fun.

Each session is a focused 45-minute technical voice workout, sometimes centered on a specific functional skill — high belt, closure, classical middle voice registration, register switching — and sometimes a full-voice workout that covers the whole instrument.

Whatever the week's focus, the work underneath it is the same: building and coordinating the instrument across all sounds and all styles.

We work through targeted exercises together, and we occasionally tackle short lines or cuts of repertoire so you can apply the technique directly to real music. No lecture, no watching everyone else sing — just your own repetitions, forty-five minutes of them.

You help choose the focus. Once you're registered, you'll have a chance to tell me what you'd like to work on. I set each week's focus from what the majority of the room asks for — so the class follows the voices actually in it.

You haven’t experienced the power of group voice until you’ve experienced it with Amelia.

02 · Attendance Some Thursdays work, some don’t. Either way, you get the workout.

Your choice!

Live on Zoom

Join us Thursdays at 11:00 AM ET. Sing along in real time, hear what the room is working on, and ask questions as they come up. Cameras and mics are yours to use however you're comfortable.

On your own time

Can't make 11:00? You'll receive the video of the class afterward and can sing along with it for a full week. Same workout, same results — on a Saturday morning, or whatever time your week allows.

03 · Feedback Choose how you’re heard.

Guided along the way

In the room

If you're with us live, I may ask you to sing an exercise on your own so I can hear what's actually happening and give you specific feedback. It's an invitation. You're always free to pass.

After class — optional

At the end of every session, I'll ask you to pull out Marco Polo and send me a quick clip of some exercises from that day — one check-in per class. I'll send back quick, individual feedback. A plain voice memo works just as well if you prefer.

About Marco Polo: it's a free video-messaging app — download it for iPhone or Android. The number to send your check-ins to arrives in your confirmation email as soon as you register, so send me a hello before your first class and we'll be connected. Check-ins are entirely optional — and they're open to everyone, whether you attended live or watched the replay.

04 · Application More than one way to work what you’ve learned into your week.

In your singing…

Use Technique Thursdays as the anchor of your practice week — a reliable, guided workout.

If you teach, these forty-five minutes are for your voice and your goals.

And if you study one-on-one with ARB or another Phonation Co. teacher, use this workout as a part of your technical work for the week — that frees your lessons for more repertoire, for the places you might have gotten stuck here, or for building on what we started.

In your teaching…

Use it to spark new ideas for your teaching!

And if you teach using the Phonation Company framework, feel free to have your students register for Technique Thursdays too!

New singers welcome. You don’t need to have studied with me before. Every new student completes an intake form ahead of the first class — that’s how I get to know you, your voice, and your goals individually. Technique Thursdays also pairs beautifully with regular study, whether that’s 1:1 lessons or Framework Fundamentals, though neither is required.

If you have any questions about whether this class is a good fit for you, please contact us before booking.

05 · Come ready to have fun! Nothing to prepare. No specialized equipment needed.

All you need is…

  • A good internet connection (ethernet preferred)
  • A place where you can sing freely
  • Water
  • A notepad, or another way to take notes
  • Marco Polo, if you'd like feedback — free on iPhone and Android
  • You!

08 · Frequently Asked Questions

Before you book

Do I need to be an advanced singer?

No. The exercises are guided and scalable — you'll work within your own range and current ability. As we go, I'll offer ways to scale each exercise up or down, so you're always working at the right level for your voice that day. If you sing regularly and want your technique to get stronger, you're in the right room.

What if I can't make 11:00 AM ET on a Thursday?

Every registered singer receives the class video afterward and can sing along with it for a full week. You get the same workout, just on your own clock.

When will the video be posted?

Within 24 hours of the class. You'll get an email with the link as soon as it's up.

How long do I have to watch the replay?

One week from the day the video is sent. After that the link expires, so it's worth blocking out the time.

Will anyone hear me sing alone?

Only if you want! You're welcome to keep your mic muted the entire time. If you're live, I may invite you to demonstrate an exercise so I can give you specific feedback, but you can always pass.

How do I get individual feedback?

At the end of each class I'll ask you to send me a short clip of an exercise through Marco Polo — a free app on iPhone and Android — or as a plain voice memo if you prefer. I'll send back quick, individual feedback. It's optional every week, and it's open to replay watchers too.

Do I need to be currently taking lessons with a Phonation Co. teacher?

Not at all. Many singers come to Technique Thursdays on its own — some after having previously worked with us, some as brand-new clients. That said, it works especially well alongside Framework Fundamentals, or occasional or regular 1:1 lessons with me or one of our associate teachers. The class is the weekly workout; lessons are where we customize it even further to you, and where you apply it in your own repertoire.

I'm a voice teacher. Is this useful for me?

Very. You'll leave energized in your own singing and in your teaching — the work sharpens your instrument and your ear at the same time. And you get the wonderful experience of being the singer in the room rather than the one teaching.

Can I share my pass with a friend?

Passes are for one singer and can't be shared or transferred. Send your friend the link to sign up — they'll want their own replay access anyway.
